5 Tips for Choosing the Right Cleanroom Disposable Garments

When it comes to choosing the right disposable garments for your cleanroom, you want to be sure your employees are comfortable but well covered in case of spills. But most importantly, you want cleanroom garments that are contaminant-free and will be easy to don in aseptic cleanroom operations.

At Medco Supplies, we recommend starting with the ISO level for your cleanroom. This will help you know what kind of garments your employees will need. Do you need sterile garments? Or do you need clean and sterile garments? There is a difference.

Sterile garments can be free from contaminants, but not particulates. They can still introduce particles into your cleanroom, although they would likely be sterile particles. Clean and sterile garments, on the other hand, have been cleaned for particulate removal as well as sterilized. These are often called “lint-free.”

Static control garments are another consideration. Is static a concern with your production? Choose disposable garments that are made from film-bonded, nonwoven fabric. Breathable fabric—or microporous fabric—that still repels liquids makes these garments comfortable and practical. Finally, they are sprayed with an anti-static treatment.

Next, consider what protective barrier is needed in your cleanroom frocks, coveralls or lab coats. Garments offering a combination of spunbonded and meltblown layers will provide a good all-purpose protective barrier against liquid splashes and light chemical spills. Polyethylene-coated polypropylene garments offer the greatest protective barrier against liquid spills. Garments of spunbonded olefin, such as Advantage MPC, offer the best protection against chemical splashes.

In addition to protecting against liquid penetration, a good cleanroom garment will also need to provide a microbial barrier to protect the aseptic cleanroom from microbial contamination. Finally, a good disposable garment should provide particle filtration efficiency (PFE) to ensure particulates do not penetrate the cleanroom environment.

All in one convenient location, Medco Supplies has the cleanroom supplies that will help you outfit your employees with all of the protective barriers and lint-free garments needed to keep them comfortable and safe. Beyond disposable frocks, coveralls, aprons and lab coats, don’t forget to order the necessary accompaniments such as hoods, bouffants, beard covers, shoe covers, gloves, sleeves and masks.
